ISKI Tuzla 150 Ton/ Day Capacity Sludge Dryer Plant

Having been awarded this extension tender, KUZU Group built a separate dedicated building next to the existing dewatering facility and installed an additional 50 m3capacity sludge storage and handling unit. Then a 150 ton dryer was manufactured in cooperation with US based Komline Sanderson Inc., resulting in a dryer of 80% local Turkish production.

Project Description

The existing thermal sludge dryers in the Tuzla WWTP were also built and installed by KUZU Group as part of the extension works of the Tuzla WWTP 2nd Phase in 2009. There were 3 individual paddle dryers in the plant, each with a daily capacity of thermally drying 100 tons of mechanically dewatered wet sludge with 25% DS up to 98% DS suitable for cement factory incineration.

But the increased sludge load within time made it necessary to install another 150 ton/day dryer. Having been awarded this extension tender, KUZU Group built a separate dedicated building next to the existing dewatering facility and installed an additional 50 m3 capacity sludge storage and handling unit. Then a 150 ton dryer was manufactured in cooperation with US based Komline Sanderson Inc., resulting in a dryer of 80% local Turkish production. The new dryer same as the old ones also utilized the 12bar, 190 C steam produced by the waste heat of the biogas burning gas turbines of the cogeneration facility. The dried sludge was cooled in cooling conveyors and sent to the existing dry product silos via the new dense phase transport system. Since the drying is achieved by direct contact with hot metal surfaces, the relatively small amount of foul air produced goes through a spray water condenser and sent to the existing odor removal system. Based on KUZU Group extensive experience with Tuzla WWTP’s high inert content sludge the surfaces of the pedals and the troughs were made of special metal alloys with high abrasion resistance thus increasing the life time of the dryers under toughest operating conditions.
